Introduction

The Training Workshop in Helicobacter pylori, organised by Dino Vaira and Vincenzo Stanghellini, has become a regular, annual highlight for those with a particular interest in Helicobacter pylori.

This high quality symposium takes place in the beautiful city of Bologna on a Saturday in the Autumn, during which some of the best known names in helicobacter research provide an overview of current thinking.

On this occasion it was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to edit the proceedings of the workshop, published for the first time in Gut. The contributors are well known and their papers, published within 12 months of the workshop, provide an authoritative analysis of current data and include predictions for the future. The supplement covers mechanisms of damage caused by H pylori, management of infection, diagnosis, and treatment. It will be of value to anyone seeking an overview or starting out . . .
