CLINICAL PRESENTATION

A 36-year-old Japanese woman presented with sudden onset epigastric pain. Her medical history included an 8 year history of Behçet’s disease with the treatment of prednisolone. On examination, she was afebrile and had localised epigastric tenderness with rebound. Routine laboratory examinations indicated an elevated white blood cell count of 18x109/litre and other normal values. A plain abdominal radiograph revealed no free air but localised ileus in the upper abdomen.
