Time course of blood flow responses to subcutaneous injection of E coli. The response in a healthy control at (A) eight hours and (B) 48hours. In ulcerative colitis patients, the response at (C) eight hours was similar but persisted at (D) 48hours and beyond. (E) Quantitative blood flow responses in the index patient and three healthy controls injected at the same time with the same batch of bacteria. Results are expressed as mean (SEM).
