We read with great interest the paper by Gao et al, where the authors elegantly prove the efficacy of a CD40 antisense oligonucleotide for the treatment of trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis in rats.[1] Their results are in keeping with previous reports in which immunoblockade of CD40 ligand (L) was also able to ameliorate experimental colitis.
