We congratulate Kamisawa et al on their recent study1 in which they report the rate of remission and relapse after steroid treatment in autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). However, we are uncertain that the definition of remission is clear in their study. The authors defined remission as the ‘disappearance of clinical symptoms and resolution of the pancreatic and/or extrapancreatic manifestations on imaging studies’ in their ‘Methods’ section. However, they contradictorily stated that irregularity of the pancreatic ducts and/or bile duct stenosis remained in some patients at remission in their ‘Results’ section.
