In the paper ‘Working Party proposal for a revised classification system of renal dysfunction in patients with cirrhosis’ Florence Wong and co-authors have attempted to improve the definition of renal dysfunction in liver cirrhosis.1 The Working Party Statement (WPS) defines acute kidney injury as all causes of acute deterioration of renal function as indicated by an increase in serum creatinine (SeCr) of >50% from baseline or a rise in SeCr of ≥0.3 mg/dl in <48 h.1
