2023, Journal of Hazardous MaterialsMetabolic profiling of HIV infected individuals on an AZT-based antiretroviral treatment regimen reveals persistent oxidative stress
2022, Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical AnalysisCitation Excerpt :Similarly, Ziegler et al. also observed significant changes in plasma glutamine levels in HIV infected individuals when compared to their healthy counterparts [43]. Interestingly, glutamine is a precursor of glutathione, as such, changes in serum glutamine levels may be indicative of oxidative stress [44,45]. To further support this notion, in this study, we also observed altered serum levels of arginine and glutathione between HIV infected individuals (treated and non-treated) compared to heathy controls, thus indicating the presence of oxidative stress.
