Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
2014, Textbook of Gastrointestinal Radiology: Volumes 1-2, Fourth EditionHow reflux causes symptoms: Reflux perception in gastroesophageal reflux disease
2013, Best Practice and Research: Clinical GastroenterologyCitation Excerpt :The extent to which a reflux episode reaches up into the oesophagus and its relation to perception has been addressed by several studies, using pH-catheters with multiple pH-sensors or with pH-impedance monitoring. Both techniques demonstrated that GERD patients have more reflux episodes that reach the proximal oesophagus when compared with healthy volunteers [2,92]. Within the GERD spectrum the proximal extent of reflux increases with the severity of mucosal damage.
