2022, Free Radical Biology and MedicineCitation Excerpt :The increase in gst gene expression is verified by qPCR that showed significant increases in the mRNA expression of the endogenous gst-4 gene along with gst-30 and gcs-1 (glutamyl cysteine synthetase) encoding other phase II detoxification enzymes (Fig. 1c). The gst-4 and gst-30 genes are responsible for detoxifying compounds through the conjugation of electrophiles to glutathione [15]. Meanwhile, gcs-1 catalyzes the rate-limiting step of glutathione biosynthesis [16].

2017, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Reviews on CancerCitation Excerpt :Overall, VCN-2 caused apoptosis and enhances DTL activity by blocking signaling down-stream of EGF and IGF by inhibiting MAP enzymes that regulate Ral-mediated exosome-secretion and cytoskeletal remodeling. The MAP is a critical biochemical pathway (phase II biotransformation) that disposes of exogenous and endogenous toxins [23–25,28]. It defends against exogenous electrophilic (electron-deficient) compounds that cause mutations by forming adduct with DNA-bases.
