2015, Journal of Pharmaceutical SciencesCitation Excerpt :Though both strips and patches of follicular lymphoid tissue have been observed in humans, these are also generally of much shorter length.25,26 By contrast, in all of the guinea pig, rabbit, mouse, and rat, lymphoid follicles are absent in the stomach,3,14 as is also the case for humans, though which is known to be affected by the presence of diseases such as Heliobacter pylori infection154,155 and certain malignancies.156 Rabbits in particular possess a specialized ileocecal pouch or saccule (Sacculus rotundus) that is near continuous with the appendix, and both structures of which are known to be rich in lymphoid follicles.
