      Platelets were removed by using two-step centrifugation, once at 140 g and twice at 100 g in PBS at room temperature for 10 min. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated by centrifugation on lymphoprep (Nyegaard, Oslo Norway) at 1200 g for 20 min at 20°C (16). Monocytes, identified by May-Grünwald Giemsa staining comprised 16% to 22% (mean: 19%).
