    Embryos were dissected free from extraembryonic membranes and were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde overnight at 4 ​°C. In situ hybridization was performed as previously described (Wilkinson and Nieto, 1993). Whole mount images of embryos were taken using a Zeiss Stereo Discovery V12.
