Mechanisms of staphylococcal enterotoxin-induced emesis
2014, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :A specific 5-HT neurotoxin, 5,7-DHT, markedly reduced the emetic response evoked by SEA suggests that the neurons containing 5-HT play a significant role in the mediation of SEA-induced emesis (Hu et al., 2007). Previous studies have shown that 5-HT in the intestinal myenteric plexus stimulates vagal afferent fibers from the stomach and intestine in ferrets and increases vagal nodose ganglia activities in rats (Blackshaw and Grundy, 1993; Glatzle et al., 2002). 5-HT is also present in the central nervous system (Kilpatrick et al., 1987).
