2017, American Journal of SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Historically, the primary treatment approach was surgery but today the initial therapeutic measures are usually performed by ERCP with sphincterotomy, dilatation, stenting or a combination of these procedures. These approaches achieve symptom relief in approximately 75–90% of patients with acute recurrent pancreatitis.13,14,22,27–35 In contrast, patients with chronic pancreatitis or chronic pain have significantly less benefit from endoscopic therapy.36,37
