In recent years, in patients with cirrhosis, some serious change of Doppler parameters has been depicted, containing a decrease of portal flow velocity (Alpern, Rubin, Williams, & Capek, 1987) and an elevation of hepatic resistance indices (Iwao, Oho, & Sakai, 1997), both related to the expansion of portal vascular resistance (Moriyasu, Nishida, & Ban, 1986), and superior mesenteric artery impedance index is decreased (Piscaglia, Gaiani, & Gramantieri, 1998). The presence of many analyzed variables complicates it for a physician to diagnose the cirrhosis disease.

This is important to assess the reliability of our results, as the technique is not devoid of potential methodological faults, and is largely operator-dependent [32].
