It is considerably denatured in the process and has a shorter half life when given intravenously than 131I-labelled albumin. Nevertheless it is satisfactory for absorption studies, although not for turnover observations. These studies on absorption in control subjects and in patients with intestinal malabsorption indicate that the excreted radioactivity may have been derived from endogenous sources rather than from the results of malabsorption alone.
