Previous studies have identified shared susceptibility genes for IBD and GSE. Myosin IXB, first identified as associated with GSE, was also proven to be associated with ulcerative colitis (UC).1 We would like to respond to the recent study performed by Wapenaar et al that identified two tight-junction genes, PARD3 and MAGI2, to be associated with both GSE and UC (Gut 2008;57:438).
