Minimum criteria for the diagnosis of diffuse oesophageal spasm based on a 24 hour manometry study
(1) Duration of “spasm” contraction greater than 15 seconds | |
(2) Maximum amplitude of “spasm” contractions greater than 200 mm Hg | |
(3) “Spasm” contractions should involve greater than 10 cm of oesophageal body | |
(4) Symptoms (which should occur with some of the contractions) of chest pain and/or dysphagia should occur during or within 30 seconds of the contraction ending |
