Evaluation of indomethacin susceptible sites in the rat duodenum

Percentage of histological section showing:
Treatment Early changes Late changes No abmormality

  • Two groups of rats received a single oral dose of indomethacin 10 mg/kg; the jejunum was assessed histologically four and 24 hours later for early and late changes. A third group received a second dose of indomethacin 24 hours after the first dose and the jejunum was assessed for histological changes four hours later. Early (4 h) histological changes were defined as focal villous shortening, superficial villous necrosis and neutrophil infiltration.3Late (24 h) histological changes were defined as focal full thickness mucosal necrosis and neutrophil infiltration.
