A study by Yokoyama, Baraona, and Lieber (1995) found that ethanol is first metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract by ADH, and an increase of ADH activity can alleviate the damage caused by ethanol (Yokoyama et al., 1995). Yu et al. (2013) also found the similar result that the corn peptides, especially low-molecular-weight peptides, could activate ADH and facilitate alcohol metabolism.
