2017, Biomedicine and PharmacotherapyCitation Excerpt :There are many indirect studies which predict the involvement of natriuretic peptides in liver disease [108,109]. A study using BNP as a biomarker shows that the plasma BNP level is correlated significantly with the severity of liver disease in cirrhotic patients and thus high plasma BNP seems to be a good prognostic marker of liver cirrhosis related deaths [109,110]. There exists a link between cardiac dysfunction and nonalcoholic liver disease wherein advanced cardiac dysfunctions lead to increased BNP levels and also liver cirrhosis [111].
