Training pathways and competency assessment in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
2017, Techniques in Gastrointestinal EndoscopyCitation Excerpt :Short courses may have a potential role for experienced endoscopists to learn new techniques; however, they should not be regarded as an alternative primary training for ERCP [64].
Guidelines for privileging, credentialing, and proctoring to perform GI endoscopy
2017, Gastrointestinal EndoscopyCitation Excerpt :“Minor skill” describes a new nonexperimental development that is a minor extension of an accepted and widely available technique or procedure (eg, radiofrequency ablation of Barrett’s esophagus, over-the-scope clips). For most GI endoscopists, obtaining competency in a minor skill should involve education and practical exposure such as that obtained from short courses, training videos, endoscopic simulators, and interactive computer programs.60 For a minor skill, the duration of training should not be fixed but rather reflect the time needed for the participant to master it.
Improving measurement of the adenoma detection rate and adenoma per colonoscopy quality metric: The Indiana University experience
2014, Gastrointestinal EndoscopyCitation Excerpt :We therefore propose that the revised adenoma quality metric (adenoma/colonoscopy, APC) minimum detection benchmarks be set at 0.50 for men and 0.2 for women. Recent studies have shown ADRs routinely higher than the minimum detection benchmarks, approaching 60% to 70% in some studies.14 Our findings allow extrapolation to high-level adenoma detectors.
