Systematic review and meta-analysis: Diagnostic performance of DNA alterations in pancreatic juice for the detection of pancreatic cancer
2022, PancreatologyCitation Excerpt :The initial search identified 580 studies, of which 504 were excluded based on title and abstract. After full-text review, 41 studies were included: 32 concerning DNA mutations, 14 DNA methylations and five describing both [12–52] (Fig. 1). For each study, distinct collection methods and DNA analysis methods were reported.
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Tissue Sampling: When and How?
2007, Clinical Gastroenterology and HepatologyCitation Excerpt :On the basis of our experience with cytology and these ancillary techniques, an algorithmic approach26 has been developed (Figure 8). Other ancillary tools that have been tested and found possibly helpful include immunohistochemical staining for p53,35,36 flow cytometry,37 polymerase chain reaction for mutations in codon 12 of the k-ras gene,38 loss of heterozygosity,39 and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for specific mRNAs.40 None of these techniques is in everyday clinical use.
Detection of oncogenes in chronic pancreatitis
2003, HPBCitation Excerpt :The analysis of gene mutations and gene expression in pancreatic cancer and CP has identified several factors, which are commonly deregulated in both diseases [54–57]. Detection of mutations in the K‐ras proto‐oncogene and p53 tumour suppressor gene in specimens obtained by needle aspiration, from pure pancreatic juice, duodenal juice, serum or stool, may be clinically useful diagnostic markers for early detection of pancreatic malignancy [58–70]. Although these mutations are considered critical and early events in pancreatic oncogenesis, the role of K‐ras and p53 mutations in CP as a precancerous disorder is not completely known.
