2020, Clinical RadiologyCitation Excerpt :Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an effective and relatively safe approach for managing many complications of portal hypertension. It is an attractive option due to its high technical, clinical success rates1–3 and effectiveness in bleeding control.2,4–6 Moreover, TIPS has low morbidity and mortality and is associated with the eliminating ascites or substantially reducing ascites in cases that are refractory to medical therapy2,7; however, TIPS implantation is complicated by high re-intervention rates, which are mainly caused by thrombosis or stenosis of the stent and hepatic venous outflow tract.
